There was a time when a vast sea of holm oaks stretched beyond the horizon in the land of the Soliensis. Their bronze-hued acorns nourished a breed found nowhere else in the world: the 100% Ibérico pig. This privileged environment, combined with purebred animals, is the origin of COVAP’s Alta Expresión products—a true treasure of Mediterranean gastronomy. Today, those same centuries-old trees continue to nourish the descendants of those original pigs, within a unique ecosystem: the dehesa of the Valle de Los Pedroches.

The first Balbás wine was crafted in the family’s underground cellars in Ribera del Duero, marking the start of a remarkable legacy. In 2015, that origin was honored with Ancestral, a wine made only in exceptional vintages using grapes from Finca El Castillo. Bottled in a shape reminiscent of the original and engraved with a restored version of the historic label, Ancestral blends refined technique with the enduring spirit and passion of that first vintage.
